Google Analytics
What is it?

The primary goal of monitoring your Web analytics is to make improvements in your website design and to improve your marketing campaigns. If you’re armed with the knowledge of how visitors find your site and how they use your site, you can fine-tune your marketing campaigns, the relationships that you form, adjust your website content and edit your visual presentations. The easier it is for visitors to find your site—and the more comfortable they feel while they cruise around it—the better your chances to convert that traffic into paying customers and repeat visitors.

Why should you use Web Analytics?

  • You can determine which marketing campaigns work and which ones don’t. You can use this data to launch future successful campaigns or you can use this data to either cut a marketing campaign short or extend one out depending on its success.
  • You can identify which site referrers generate the most traffic and revenue. The site referrer, or referring page, is the URL of the previous Web page from which a link was followed. This is a good way to identify which Web site owners you should foster relationships with, and which ones you can afford to sever ties with.
  • You can determine which products have the best browse-to-buy through ratios. In this manner, you can get rid of products that are producing poorly and beef up products that are scoring higher. If you are running an information-based business, you can determine which information is leading to the best conversion rates and add similar information.
  • You can analyze your visitor click streams. From this information, you can modify your website content to improve your rate of conversion. Rate of conversion is defined as the act of converting a visitor into a customer, a subscriber or a member.
  • You can experiment with adding more data to your website. If this new content is increasing your conversion rates and/or keeping your visitors on you site longer than it has had a positive impact. If the opposite is occurring, quickly delete the new additions.
  • You can determine cross-selling opportunities. Use this data to supply your existing customers with complementary products right before they buy so that your sales will be increased.
  • You can track the keywords that visitors search for while visiting your site. Armored with this information, you can use these keywords as the basis for new web content, new products or new services.
  • You can find errors in your website’s code. With this information, you can fix the errors and make your visitor’s time on your site more enjoyable. If you have pages that are pointed to blank pages or broken links, you can eliminate them.
